WHICH CHURCH? BY STEVE FINNELL

Jesus said I will build My church. Which church was that? Matthew 16:15-19...."But who do you say I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.".....18 I also say to you that are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven......(THE KEYS WERE USED IN ACTS CHAPTER 2)

Did Jesus say I will build the Methodist Church, the Catholic Church, the Baptist Church, or any of the other 30,000 denominations?

JESUS SAID I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH!

HEAD OF THE CHURCH: Ephesians 5:23...as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

The apostle Paul did not say, select a man on earth, or a national board and then appoint him or them as head of the church? Paul said Jesus was the head of the church.

JESUS IS AND WILL BE, UNTIL HE RETURNS, THE HEAD OF HIS CHURCH.

When the apostle Paul sent greetings to the Christians in Rome, he said; (Romans 16:16 ....All the churches of Christ send greeting.) Paul did not send greetings from the churches of Roman Catholics, nor from any other denomination. Paul was a member of the Lord's church, not some denomination.

Acts Chapter 2: The same Peter, who Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom of heaven told them how to become member of the kingdom of heaven here on earth, (the kingdom of heaven on earth is the church of Christ, the Lord's church, the body of Christ)? Peter preach Jesus to them and when they believed, he told them to repent and be baptized so their sins could be forgiven, and they received the gift of the Holy Spirit and were added to the Lord's church.

Acts 2:40-41....."Be saved from this perverse generation!" 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

They were added to the church only after they believed Peter's preaching and were immersed in water.

The Lord added the saved to His church. The Lord did not add them to the Roman Catholic Church, the Lutheran church, the Baptist Church, nor any of the other 30,000 denomination that exist today. (Acts 2:47... And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.)

CAN JOINING A DENOMINATION SAVE ANYONE?

Did the apostle Peter consult a man-made catechism, a creed book, or a denominational statement of faith before he preached on the Day of Pentecost?

Revelation 20:15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Having you name written in the role book of one of the 30,000 denominations cannot keep you from being thrown into the lake of fire.

When Jesus returns He is coming for His church. Is your name written in the Lamb's book of life. (Revelation 21:1-27......27 but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Which church did Jesus die for? JESUS DIED FOR HIS CHURCH!

THE TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN BY STEVE FINNELL

There are those who teach that the sin of Adam was imputed to all men causing total depravity, rendering, all men, incapable of free-will, the inability to perform any righteous act, unable to respond to the gospel unless God imputes him with faith so he can believe, totally morally corrupt, and under bondage to his evil nature, and that he has no free-will.

ARE MEN BORN TOTALLY DEPRAVED

Ecclesiastes 7:26 And I discovered more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, whose hands are chains. One who is pleasing to God will escape from her, but the sinner will be captured by her.

How could a totally depraved man ever be pleasing to God?

Ecclesiastes 7:29 "Behold, I found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices."

God made men upright. Not totally depraved. Men choose to sin of their own free-will.

Psalm 37:17 For the arms of the wicked will be broke, But the Lord sustains the righteous.

Where would the Lord find any righteous men, if all men are born totally depraved and not capable of doing anything good? Does God force men to become wicked so He can break their arms? No, men have free-will.

Psalm 37:37 Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright; For the man of peace will have a posterity.

Was the book Psalms not inspired by God?  Blameless and upright men do not seem to be an example of men who are totally depraved and incapable of doing good.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.

I guess Job was granted a total depravity waiver.

Genesis 6:9 These  are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man,  blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.

How was it possible that a totally depraved, corrupt man could attain righteousness? Noah was not totally depraved. Noah had free-will.

MEN ARE NOT TOTALLY DEPRAVED---THEY HAVE FREE-WILL!

Romans 10:13 for "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Whoever includes all men who hear the gospel.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Faith comes from hearing . Faith does not come because God imputes faith to a chosen few, so they might believe and be saved.

If man are so depraved that they cannot come to God unless God forces them, then, why did Jesus send men to preach the gospel? (Matthew 28:19-20)

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also the Greek.

The gospel is the power for salvation. Salvation is for all who believe. God did not select a few; whom He eradicated their depravity so they could believe and be saved. God gave free-will to all men so they could enter His kingdom.

Acts 10:1 Now there was a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what is called the Italian cohort, 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.

Does this describe a totally depraved, corrupt man? Cornelius was neither a Jew nor Christian, however, he gave alms and prayed to God continually. Cornelius had free-will. Cornelius did not inherit total depravity because of Adam's sin.

Mark 1:14-15 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

If, in fact, man is totally depraved and not capable of choosing between good and evil, why did Jesus tell men to repent? Jesus preached the gospel because men do have free-will.

Mark 10:46-52....52 And Jesus said to him, "Go your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.

How could the blind beggar be totally depraved, and still have faith in Jesus? Jesus said the faith of Bartimaeus had made him well. Jesus did not say ; I impute faith to you, Bartimaeus, so your sight my be restored.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

How can men who are totally depraved, morally corrupt, and are under bondage to their evil nature come to God or seek God? How is this possible?  It is possible because men have free-will to do good or evil. It is possible because all men have the free-will to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ. IT IS POSSIBLE BECAUSE GOD IS A REWARDER OF ALL WHO SEEK HIM!

SAVED BY "GRACE ALONE" IS NOT A  DOCTRINE BASED ON THE SCRIPTURES.

THAT GOD SELECTS AND FORCES CERTAIN MEN TO BE SAVED AND ALL OTHER TO BE LOST; IS, IN A NUTSHELL, THE DOCTRINE OF "GRACE ALONE."

WHAT IS THE WASHING OF REGENERATION? BY STEVE FINNELL

Most people who believe that men are saved by faith alone simply disregard the Scriptures that express water baptism as being essential to forgiveness of sins.

What is the washing of regeneration?

Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done , but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,(NKJV)

God saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. What is is washing of regeneration?

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.(New Revised  Standard Version Catholic Edition)

He saved us through the water of rebirth, not because we were born of water the first time. No one can be reborn of amniotic fluid, that would be the first birth.

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.(New Revised Standard Version)

You cannot take the water out of washing of regeneration.

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. (New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised)

Being reborn of water and the Spirit cannot be separated.

John 3:3-5 ...unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 5. ....unless one is born of water and the Spirit , he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  (NKJV)

You must be born again of water and the Spirit. Born of the Spirit alone cannot saved you.

THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.

Ephesians 5:25-27....as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,.... (NKJV)

Christ sanctifies and cleanses the body of Christ with the washing of water. The washing of regeneration.

Ephesians 5:26 He did this to make her holy by washing her in a bath of water with the word. (Common English Bible)

There is no rebirth without water baptism.

Ephesians 5:26 He made the church holy by the power of his word, and he made it pure by washing it with water.(Contemporary English Version)

There is no dry washing of regeneration.

THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.

Acts 22:16 'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord." (NKJV)

No sins (under the New Covenant) are washed away without water baptism.

Acts 22:16 Now, don't wait any longer. Get up, be baptized and wash away your sins, trusting in Jesus to save you.' (Easy-to-Read Version)

The washing of regeneration.

THE WASHING OF REGENERATION.

1. Titus 3:5 not by works of righteous  which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

WATER AND SPIRIT.

2. John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(NKJV)

WATER AND SPIRIT.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

WATER AND SPIRIT.

There is no salvation without the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

THERE IS NO DRY-CLEANING, FOR SALVATION, UNDER THE NEW COVENANT TERMS OF PARDON!

THE PRIESTHOOD BY STEVE FINNELL

Are all Christians priests? Is it possible for all believers in Christ to approach God the father with only Jesus Christ as a mediator? Yes. Jesus is our high priest. There is the priesthood of all believers. There is Jesus the high priest. There is no mention of the office of priest in the New Testament church, that is a man-made tradition. There is no office of "priest" that is the authority in the local church or the mediator between man and God.

PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS

1 Peter 2:5-9 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ..........9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

All Christians are part of the priesthood.

Revelation 1:5-6 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood---6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father--- to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

All who have been washed by the blood of Jesus have been made  priests to God the Father by Jesus. THERE IS NOT AN OFFICE OF PRIEST; all Christians are priests.

THE HIGH PRIEST

Hebrews 4:14-15 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus is our one and only high priest. He is the only priest we need.

JESUS IS OUR MEDIATOR

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator also between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the only mediator between God and men. The Virgin Mary is not a mediator. There are not man-made priests that are mediators between God and men.

ALL CHRISTIANS ARE PRIESTS!

SAVED BY GRACE ALONE? by steve finnell

The doctrine that teaches we are saved by grace alone is that God chose all who would be saved before the earth was formed. If men are saved by grace alone, then nothing is required of them. Did God predetermine which individual Christians would be saved by grace alone? No He did not.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God;(NASB)

If you believe that you have been saved by grace alone, then you must deny that you have been saved through faith.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men. (NASB)

If you believe that you have been saved  by grace alone, then you have to believe that all men have the opportunity to accept God's grace and be saved.

Ephesians 4:18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;(NASB)

If you believe that men are saved by grace alone and chosen to be saved by God, then you must reject the idea that that some men are not saved because of the hardness of their heart.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.(NASB)

Christians have obtained grace by faith. Faith precedes grace. Grace is available to all men, however, it is only obtained by faith through the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you believe you have been saved by grace alone and therefore cannot lose your salvation, then you have to deny Galatians 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.(NASB)

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.(NASB)

If you believe you were saved by grace alone, then you must reject belief and water baptism as being essential in order to be saved.

If you honestly believe you were saved by grace alone, then absolutely nothing would be required for salvation.

Being saved by grace alone does not require faith, water baptism, confessing Jesus as Lord and Savior, believing in the resurrection of Jesus, believing that there is one God, nor repentance of any kind.

You are denying the truth if assert you were saved by grace alone.

All men have the opportunity to be saved because of God's grace.

THE PHARISAICAL MYTH BY STEVE FINNELL

Are the modern day Pharisees those who believe that you have to follow God's doctrine in order to be saved? The example.
FAITH (John 3:16
REPENTANCE (Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19)
CONFESSION ((Romans 10:9-10, Acts 8:37)
WATER BAPTISM (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Acts 22:16, 1 Peter 3:21)

Are the contemporary Pharisees those who teach that Christians, who make sin a lifestyle, will not enter the kingdom of God? (1 Corinthians 6:6-11, Galatians 5:19-20)

Was the problem with the Pharisees that they kept God's law to the letter and forced others to do the same? ABSOLUTELY NOT! The Pharisees were keeping their man-made traditions, they were not keeping God's law to the letter.

Jesus did not condemn the Pharisees for keeping the laws of God to the letter. It was the exact opposite.

Mark 7:1-9 The Pharisees.....7 'But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men! 8 Neglecting the command of God, you hold to the tradition of men." 9. He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandments of God in order to keep your traditions.

Jesus made it very clear that the Pharisees did not keep God's laws to the letter. The problem with the Pharisees were they were keeping their man-made traditions!

Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you , scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.

Jesus was not rebuking the Pharisees for following God's law to the letter, He was admonishing them for neglecting the law.

Matthew 5:20 "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and the Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus did not question the righteousness of the Pharisees because they were living in strict obedience to God's law. They were not even close to following God's laws.

Matthew 16:6-12And Jesus said to them, "Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.".......12Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and and Sadducees.

Jesus was not warning of the teaching of the Pharisees because they were advocating strict adherence to the Scriptures. They were teaching from their man-made creed books.

Matthew 23:13-33....33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

Jesus did not refer to the Pharisees as serpents and ask them how they would escape hell, because they were following the Scriptures to the letter of the law. THEY WERE NOT KEEPING GOD'S LAWS!

The problem with the Pharisees was they were following their man-made creed books. They were not living in strict obedience to the Scriptures, they were not even close.

John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

JESUS DID NOT ADMONISH, REBUKE, LECTURE, NOR REPRIMAND THE PHARISEES FOR KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS NOR GOD'S COMMANDMENTS TO THE LETTER OF THE LAW. IT WAS JUST THE OPPOSITE!

TEACHING THE BIBLICAL TERMS FOR PARDON ACCORDING THE BIBLE IS NOT BEING PHARISAICAL!

THE MAN-MADE CREED BOOKS OF TODAY ARE NO MORE GOD'S WORD THAN THE CREED BOOKS OF THE PHARISEES.

IF THE DOCTRINE YOU FOLLOW CONTRADICTS SCRIPTURE, THEN, IT IS MAN-MADE TRADITION!

THEY MAKE STUFF-UP  by steve finnell

Many believers in Christ make stuff-up. False doctrine is fabricated by the Devil, individuals and denominations. Why would anyone believe doctrine that is contrary to Scripture? There only is one answer, pride.

Eve ate from tree of knowledge because the serpent told her she would be like God. She believed doctrine contrary to God's word. Eve had a pride problem.  (Genesis 2:17, Genesis 3:1-24)

Today many believers accept doctrine that is contrary to Scripture. Those with a pride problem are easily deceived.

MADE UP-STUFF

1. Men are saved by grace alone. There is no Scripture that states men are saved by grace alone, however, pride has convinced many that they were selected to be saved and all those who are lost were selected by God to burn in hell. Pride is a terrible thing.

2. There are many who in order support the doctrine of saved by "faith alone" say that "and" in Mark 16:16 is not a conjunction; therefore immersion in water is not essential in order to be saved. (Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.NASB) There is no Scripture that says men are saved by "faith alone." Pride is a destructive force.

3. More than a few assert that the Virgin Mary was a perpetual Virgin. No Scripture states that as fact. (Matthew 1:24-25 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and he took Mary as his wife, 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and called His name Jesus. NASB)
The Bible states the Virgin Mary was not a perpetual virgin. Why would anyone trust church tradition instead of Scripture? Pride is not a virtue.

4. There is a denomination that teaches praying to the Virgin Mary is acceptable and that she was bodily resurrected from the grave. Neither of those doctrines are found in the Bible, as a matter of fact they are contrary to Scripture. (1 Corinthians 15:50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the the imperishable. NASB) (Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him,"Go Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord God, and serve Him only.'" NASB) Praying to anyone is worship. Pride can cause people to be deceived.

The first woman to ever live was deceived due to her own pride.

If your denomination is teaching doctrine that is contrary to Scripture, then, surely there is a pride problem.

"No One has Ascended to Heaven"

by Eric Lyons, M.Min.

When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus regarding the need to be “born again” (John 3:1-8), He also sought to impress upon the mind of this ruler of the Jews that His words were from above. Jesus spoke of spiritual things that no man knew (Matthew 13:35; cf. 7:28-29; Luke 2:47). One of the reasons Jesus gave for being able to expound on such spiritual truths is found in John 3:13. Here, the apostle John recorded Jesus as having said to Nicodemus, “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man” (John 3:13). According to the skeptic, this statement by Jesus is severely flawed. Since the Old Testament reveals that Elijah escaped physical death and “went up by a whirlwind into heaven” (2 Kings 2:11; cf. Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5), allegedly Jesus could not truthfully tell Nicodemus, “No one has ascended to heaven.” Is the skeptic right?
For Jesus’ statement to contradict what the Bible says about Elijah, one first must presuppose that Jesus was referring to the exact same place to which Elijah ascended. For a contradiction to exist between two Bible passages, one must prove that the one doing the speaking (or writing) is referring to the same person, place, or thing (see Jevons, 1928, p. 118). Can the skeptic be certain that the “heaven” to which Jesus referred, is the same one into which the body of Elijah ascended? The words “heaven” or “heavens” appear in our English Bibles about 700 times. And yet, in many of the passages where “heaven(s)” is found, the inspired writers were not discussing the spiritual heaven with which we most often associate the word. For example, in Genesis 1 and 2, the Hebrew word for heaven appears 15 times in 14 verses. Yet in every instance, the word is referring to something besides the spiritual heaven where God dwells. The word “heaven” (Hebrew shamayim, Greek ouranos) is used by Bible writers in basically three different ways. It is used to refer to the atmospheric heavens in which the airplanes fly, the birds soar, and the clouds gather (Genesis 1:20; Jeremiah 4:25; Matthew 6:26, ASV). “Heaven(s)” also is used in the Bible when referring to the firmament where we find the Sun, Moon, and stars—the sidereal heavens, or outer space (Genesis 1:14-15; Psalm 19:4,6; Isaiah 13:10). The third “heaven” frequently mentioned in Scripture is the spiritual heaven in which Jehovah dwells (Psalm 2:4; Hebrews 9:24), and where, one day, the faithful will live forevermore (Revelation 21:18-23; John 14:1-3; cf. 2 Corinthians 12:2-3). [NOTE: The word “firmament” (meaning expanse) is used in the same three ways “heaven” is used. Thus, what is said about heaven also can be said of the firmament (cf. Genesis 1:20; Genesis 1:17; Psalm 150:1).] The context of John 3 clearly indicates that Jesus is referring to the spiritual heavens wherein God dwells (cf. John 3:27). 2 Kings 2:11, however, is not as clear. The writer of 2 Kings easily could have meant that the body of Elijah miraculously ascended up high into the air never to been seen by anyone on Earth again. Nowhere does the text indicate that he left Earth at that moment to dwell in God’s presence. He definitely went somewhere, but we have no evidence that he was transferred to the actual throne room of God Almighty.
The Bible indicates that when God’s faithful servants leave this Earth, their spirits are taken to dwell in a place referred to as paradise (or “the bosom of Abraham”—Luke 16:19-31). Recall when Jesus was fastened to the cross, and told the penitent thief, “Today, you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). The word paradise is of Persian derivation, and means a “garden” or “park.” Where was it that Jesus and the thief went? Neither of them went to heaven to be with God the Father on that very day, for in John 20:17 after His resurrection, Jesus reassured Mary that He had not yet ascended to the Father. So where did Jesus and the thief go after dying on the cross? Peter gave the answer to that question in his sermon in Acts 2 when he quoted Psalm 16. Acts 2:27 states that God would not abandon Christ’s soul in hades, nor allow Christ to undergo decay. So while Christ’s body was placed in a tomb for three days, Christ’s spirit went to hades. [NOTE: The word hades occurs ten times in the New Testament, and always refers to the unseen realm of the dead—the receptacle of disembodied spirits where all people who die await for the Lord’s return and judgment. One part of hades, where Jesus and the thief went, is known as paradise.] Peter argued that David, who penned Psalm 16, was not referring to himself, since David’s body was still in the tomb (Acts 2:29), and his spirit was still in the hadean realm (Acts 2:34). Acts 2 indicates that a faithful servant of God does not go directly to be with God the Father when he dies; rather, he goes to a holding place in hades known as paradise—the same place where Abraham went after he died (Luke 16), and the same place where the spirit of Elijah went after he was caught up from the Earth. In short, the Bible does not teach that Elijah left Earth to begin immediately dwelling in the presence of the Father (where Jesus was before His incarnation—John 1:1). Thus, technically he did not ascend to the “place” whence Jesus came.
For the sake of argument, consider for a moment that the skeptic is right, and that Elijah’s spirit did not go to paradise, but was taken to dwell in the very presence of God. Could Jesus still have made the statement He did, and yet not be inaccurate? I believe so. Notice again the response to Nicodemus’ question, “How can these things be?” Jesus said: “If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man” (John 3:12-13, emp. added). It may be that Jesus meant nothing more than that no one has ever gone up to heaven “by his own act” or “on his own terms” (see Bullinger, 1888, pp. 281-282). Elijah and Enoch had been taken by God, which is different than freely ascending up into heaven on one’s own terms. Furthermore, Jesus’ words, “No one has ascended to heaven,” also could have meant that no one has ever gone up into heaven to then return and speak firsthand about what he saw, and to spread the same saving message that Jesus preached. Jesus was emphasizing to Nicodemus how no one on Earth at that time was revealing such spiritual truths as Christ was, because no one ever had ascended to heaven to then return and talk about what he had seen and learned. Such seems to have been the main point Jesus was making in John 3:13. No one on Earth had seen what Jesus had seen, and thus could not teach what He taught.
Truly, the skeptic’s accusation that Jesus either lied or was mistaken regarding his comment to Nicodemus about no one having ascended to heaven, is unsubstantiated. Perhaps the word heaven used in 2 Kings 2:11 was not meant to convey the idea of the spiritual heavens in which God dwells. Or, considering the Bible’s teaching on departed spirits of the righteous being in a holding place known as paradise, and not in the actual presence of Almighty God, Jesus could have meant that no person has ever ascended to the throne room of God from which He came. Furthermore, it also is interesting to note that Nicodemus, being “a man of the Pharisees” (John 3:1), and thus one who would have been very well acquainted with the details of the Old Testament, did not respond to Jesus by saying, “Wait a minute Rabbi. What about Elijah and Enoch? Isn’t it written in the law and prophets that they ascended to heaven?” Surely, had Jesus contradicted something in the law and the prophets, it would have been brought to His attention, especially by a Pharisee. Yet, the apostle John never records such a statement.
Admittedly, at first glance, it might appear as if the statements, “Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven” (2 Kings 2:11), and, “No man has ascended to heaven” (John 3:13), are contradictory. However, when a person considers all of the possible solutions to the alleged problem, he must admit that such an interpretation is unjustified.

MARY THE PERPETUAL VIRGIN? by steve finnell

The Roman Catholic tradition is that the Virgin Mary remained a virgin her entire life. What does the Bible teach?

Mary was not a perpetual virgin.

Matthew 1:24-25 And Joseph awoke from sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and called His name Jesus. (NASB)

Matthew 1:25 And he knew her not till she brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. (Douay-Rheims Bible) Note: This Bible is a Catholic translation.

Matthew 1:25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (NIV)

Mary had other children.

Mark 6:1-3 Jesus went out from there.......3 Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us"? And they took offense at Him.(NASB)

Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon? are not also his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized in regard to him. (Douay-Rheims Bible) Note: This Bible is a Catholic translation.

Mark 6:3 Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in him.(ERV)

References to the siblings of Jesus: Matthew 13:55,56 Matthew 12:46 Luke 8:19 Mark 3:31.

The virgin Mary was not a perpetual virgin!

Church tradition that is contrary to the Bible is not God's tradition.

KING JAMES ONLY SELF-REFUTATION by steve finnell

Those who claim that the King James Version of the Bible is the only accurate translation of God's written word invalidate their position by not believing the accuracy of the King James Version itself.

Example: Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.(KJV)

Virtually all "King James Only" advocates assert that "for" in Acts 2:38 has been mistranslated and should have been translated as "because of". For, has not been mistranslated, but the meaning of "for" has been denied in order to claim that water baptism is not essential in order to has sins forgiven.

King James only advocates, by their own admission say Acts 2:38 has been mistranslated.

There is not one translation of the Bible that translates the Greek word "eis" as, because of, in Acts 2:38. Sins are forgiven after water baptism, not before. Men are not baptized because their sins have already been forgiven.

Is it plausible that God waited until 1611 to give men an accurate translation of His written word? Where in the Bible does God say that the only trustworthy translation of My word will be the 1611 version of the King James Bible?

The original King James Version included the 14 apocryphal books. Do King James only advocates use the 14 apocryphal books for faith and practice? I doubt it.

There are many trustworthy translations of God's word. The KJV is just one of them.
