JESUS SAID PREACH THE GOSPEL? by steve finnell
When Jesus spoke to the eleven disciples after His resurrection He told them to preach the gospel to all creation. (Mark 16:14-15) What was the gospel and the stated results of hearing and obeying the gospel? Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. (NASB)
WHAT THE GOSPEL IS NOT
When Pope Francis said, he would meet atheists in heaven who do good, he was not preaching the gospel of Jesus the Christ.
When Calvinists say God chooses select individuals for salvation and then forces them to have faith and then saves them without obeying Jesus in water baptism, they are not preaching the gospel of Jesus the Christ.
Jesus did not tell the eleven disciples to preach that men can be saved like the thief on the cross because being immersed in water was a work of the law of Moses, or that it was a good deed.
Jesus did not tell the eleven disciples that men could have their sins forgiven by praying a humble prayer, like that of the Jewish tax collector. (Luke 18:9-14
Jesus did not tell the eleven disciples that men could have their sins forgiven because of the faith of friends, just as did the paralytic.(Luke 5:18-20)
