TONGUES OF PENTECOST? BY STEVE FINNELL

HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED THAT CONTEMPORARY TONGUE SPEAKERS NEVER CLAIM TO SPEAK IN TONGUES LIKE PETER AND THE ELEVEN APOSTLES SPOKE ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST?

WHO SPOKE IN TONGUES ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST?

Acts 2:12-15....14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let it know to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose....

These men, were Peter and the eleven apostles. These men, were not the one hundred twenty. These men, were not all of the three thousand who were saved on the Day of Pentecost. Peter and the eleven were the ones who spoke in tongues.

WHAT KIND OF TONGUES WERE SPOKEN ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST?

Acts 2:1-11...4 And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came to gather, and were bewildered because each of them was hearing them speak in his own language........

When Peter and the eleven apostle spoke, each man heard in their own language.  Peter spoke in tongues  and each man heard in their own language.  They did not need an interpreter to understand. There are no contemporary tongues speakers who claim to have the same gift of tongues that the apostles spoke on the Day of Pentecost.

If Christians today had the gift of tongues, like Peter and the apostles demonstrated on the Day of Pentecost, they could go to the floor on the United Nations and speak in tongues and all present would be able to understand them without an interpreter. If Christians today had, the Day of Pentecost gift of tongues they could be missionaries to every country in the world without studying the language of that country.

WHY DO CHRISTIANS TODAY NOT HAVE THE GIFT OF TONGUES THAT WAS SPOKEN ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST? WHY? BECAUSE TONGUES HAVE CEASED!

1 Corinthians 13:8....if there are tongues, they will cease...
