WHEN DENOMINATIONAL DOCTRINE CONTRADICTS SCRIPTURE? -by steve finnell

When denominational doctrine is contrary to the Bible; which one is in error? As for me I will trust Scripture.

Denominational Doctrine: Imposes dietary restrictions and forbids certain members to marry.

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:1-4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrine of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused it is is received with thanksgiving;(NKJV)

Denominational Doctrine: Once you are saved you can never be lost.

Scripture: Galatians 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Denominational Doctrine: The assumption that the Virgin Mary was bodily resurrected and is now in heaven.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption  inherit corruption.(NKJV) 1Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.(NKJV) [The bodily resurrection of Christians is in the future not the past.]

Denominational Doctrine: Water baptism is not essential for the forgiveness of sin nor is it essential for salvation.

Scripture: Mark 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (NKJV) Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(NKJV) Acts 22:16 'And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.(NKJV) Ephesians 5:25-26...just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,(NKJV)
1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us, namely baptism (not the removal of filth of the flesh, but an answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,(NKJV) Colossians 2:11-13...12 buried with Him in baptism...13....He made has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,(NKJV) Romans 6:3-7....4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death...6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.....(NKJV)
Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith i Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.(NKJV) John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(NKJV)

Denominational Doctrine: All men are saved by "faith only."

There is no Scripture that states that men are saved by faith only, faith alone, nor by grace alone. Denominations add the only and alone.

When denominational doctrine is contrary to Scripture where will you put your trust?
