THE ERRONEOUS DOCTRINE OF ORIGINAL SIN by steve finnell
John Calvin's doctrine of original sin has been adopted by many who claim Jesus as Lord and Savior.
John Calvin Quote: "Original sin, therefore, appears to be a hereditary, depravity and corruption of our nature, diffused through all parts of the soul, rendering us obnoxious to the divine wrath and producing in us those works which the scripture call 'works of."
If original sin is inherited from Adam, then how did Noah escape the guilt, the corrupt nature and depravity?
Every person in the world with the exception of Noah and his family were destroyed in the great flood. If you believe the false doctrine of original sin, then you have to believe original sin was passed to the modern world through Noah and his family.
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.(NASB)
Did the Lord favor Noah because he was a sinner at birth, had a corrupt nature and was depraved?
Genesis 6:9 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.(NASB)
Does Noah seem to be suffering from a sinful nature? Was he totally depraved?
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.(NASB)
Did God save Noah and his family because they were sinners in the womb. Did God save Noah and his family because they were born totally depraved, had a sinful nature, and had inherited the guilt of Adam's sin?
Genesis 7:1 Then the Lord said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time.(NASB)
Did the Lord believe Noah was righteous because of original sin, was it because Noah had a corrupt nature, was it because Noah was totally depraved, was it because Noah was born guilty of sin?
2 Peter 2:5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah,a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;(NASB)
The question is, if Noah was guilty of original sin, if he was depraved, if he had a sinful nature, if he was a sinner from birth, then, why did God call him a preacher of righteousness and save his life?
Did Noah ever sin? Yes. All men sin before and after they become Christians. (Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8.)
Men are not guilty of sin in the womb. Men are not born as sinners. Men are not born totally depraved. Men are not born with a sinful nature. Men do not inherit the guilt of Adam's sin. Men sin because God gave them free-will and men choose to sin.
Remember grace came through faith in Jesus Christ. Noah did not live under grace.
The doctrine of original sin is a false concept that leads to infant baptism, and the doctrine of saved by grace alone.
