USING AN AXE ON ACTS 2:38 by steve finnell

Is Baptism Necessary by John MacArthur Referenced at Christianity.com

John MacArthur Quote:   In Acts 2:38, Peter appears to link forgiveness of sins to baptism. But there are several plausible interpretations of this verse that do not connect forgiveness of sin with baptism. It is possible to translate the Greek preposition eis—”because of,” or “on the basis of,” instead of “for.” It is used in that sense in Matthew 3:11; 12:41; and Luke 11:32.

Does using an axe to chop up Acts 2:38 destroy God's message of forgiveness from sin?

Acts 2:38 The Peter said to them, "Repent , and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ  for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (NKJV)

John MacArthur possible translation of "ies"rather than "for."Acts 2:38 ...."Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ because of the remission of sins......

John MacArthur possible translation of "ies"instead of "for." Acts 2:38.... "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ on the basis of remission of sins...

If you take an aspirin for a headache; does that mean you took the aspirin because your headache was already cured?

If you take an aspirin for a headache; does that mean you took the aspirin on the basis of a cured headache?

If you take cough medicine for curing a cold; does that mean you took cough medicine because your cold was already cured or on the basis of the cured cold?

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (NIV 1973)

According to John MacArthur,  Acts 2:38..."Repent and be baptized...... because your sins have already been forgiven...

[NOTE: There is not one Bible translation that translates 'ies" of Acts 2:38 as "because of," or "on the basis of."]

Using an axe on Acts 2:38 only destroys the belief of the the ignorant, and the prideful.

Pride is the reason for men teaching false doctrine and the reason for their followers  believe their perversions of God's truth.

Satan had a pride problem. He taught false doctrine. Adam and Eve had a pride problem and believed Satan's teaching.
