SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE?   by steve finnell

Where should people look for spiritual guidance? Should they look to Max Lucado, John Piper, Billy Graham, Pope Francis, etc.

Where did the 1st. century church look for spiritual guidance? Acts 2:42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, in breaking of bread, and prayers. (NKJV) John 14:15-18 "If you love Me, keep My commandments......(NKJV)

The 1st century church followed the apostles doctrine. Jesus taught the apostles in person and through the Holy Spirit.

Max Lucado denies that water baptism is essential for salvation.

Max Lucado Quote:
“What of the ones who die before they have a chance? What if I entrust my soul to Christ and before I can tell anyone or arrange to be baptized, a swarm of killer bees attacks me and I die?”
The answer to this question is found in the character of God. Would a God of love reject an honest heart? No way. Would a God of mercy and kindness condemn any seeking soul? Absolutely not. Having called you and died for you would he cast you away because of a curious sequence of events? Inconceivable. Is it possible for an unbaptized believer to be saved? Yes, definitely. Should every believer be baptized? Yes, definitely.

Max Lucado believes salvation comes before being immersed in water.

Jesus said, Mark 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved...(NKJV)
Jesus said, John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(NKJV)

Who are going to trust for spiritual guidance, Jesus or Max Lucado?

John Piper believe men are saved by grace alone.

John Piper Quote:

Learn that you were saved by grace and be humbled. You were dead in sin, blind, rebellious. And then, by grace alone, you were awakened to the beauty of Christ crucified for sinners. And, by grace alone, you believed.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (NKJV)

The gift of God that is mention here is salvation. Grace is available because Jesus died on the cross, however, God does not force His grace on men by imputing faith so they may believe and be saved.

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.(NKJV)

Faith come from hearing the gospel. God does not force men to have faith so they can believe and be saved.

Men are not saved by grace alone!

Who do you want to trust for spiritual guidance the apostle Paul or John Piper?

Billy Graham says you do not even need to know the name of Jesus to be saved.

Billy Graham Quote:

"I think everybody that that loves Christ, or knows Christ, whether they're conscious of it or not, they're members of the body of Christ. And that's what God is doing today. He's calling people for 'eh, out of the the world for his name whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world, or the non-believing world uh they are members of the body of Christ because they've been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus but uh they know in their hearts that they need something that they don't have and they turn to the only light that they have. And I think that they are saved and they are going to be with us in heaven."

Jesus said, John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one come to the Father except through Me. (NKJV)

Who are you going to look to for spiritual guidance, Jesus or Billy Graham?

Pope Francis believes unrepentant atheists can go to heaven by doing good works.

Pope Francis Quote:

"The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! 'Father, the atheists?' Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class. We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all. And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: We need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. 'But I don't believe, Father, I am an atheist!' But do good: We will meet one another there."

Who are you going to trust for spiritual guidance Jesus and the apostles or Pope Francis?
