WHAT IF YOUR PREACHER? BY STEVE FINNELL
What if your preacher was teaching errors and lies, would you be able to confront him or even know the difference?
The Bereans did not take the apostle Paul's preaching at face value. (Acts 17:10-11...they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures to see whether these things were so.)
What if your preacher was a Judaizer, would accept his teaching at face value? (Acts 15:1 Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.")
What if your preachers were named Hymenaeus and Philetus, would you accept their teaching as fact without searching the Scriptures and engaging in soul searching prayers? (2 Timothy 2:17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.)
If your preacher told you that water baptism was not for the forgiveness of sins, and had nothing to do with your salvation, would accept it at face value or would you prayerfully search the Scriptures? (Acts 2:38...be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins....Mark 16:16....has been baptized shall be saved...)
Satan's very first sermon was a lie to Eve. (2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. Genesis 3:4..."You will not surely die!)
What if your preacher told you that you do not have to be baptized in water in order to be saved? What if he said water baptism has nothing to do with having your sins forgiven? What if your preacher told you that all the Scriptures that state water baptism is for the forgiveness of sin, and has a part in your salvation have all been mistranslated or simply do not mean what they say?
WHAT IF YOUR PREACHER SAID "YOU CAN HAVE YOUR SINS DRY-CLEANED AND YOU WILL NOT SURELY DIE?" ---------WOULD YOU TRUST YOUR PREACHER WITHOUT PRAYERFULLY SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES?
