Do supernatural gifts of prophecies, tongues, and knowledge exist today?
NIV: 1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
GOD'S WORD TRANSLATION: 1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never comes to an end. There is the gift of speaking of what God has revealed, but it will no longer be used. There is the gift of speaking in other languages, but it will stop by itself. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will no longer be used.
KING JAMES BIBLE: 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but where there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
When shall prophecies, tongues, and knowledge no longer be needed?
NIV: 1 Corinthians 13:10 but when the perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

KING JAMES BIBLE: But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
When the New Testament Scriptures were completed, we had all the Bible. Everything we need is found there!

I believe it is when the body of Christ (the church) is perfected that these things will cease. Jesus said in Luke ch 13 v.32:-
ReplyDelete“Go tell this Fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and do cures today and tomorrow and on the third day I shall be perfected.'
I believe He is talking here spiritually of the following two thousand years from that time, as He is adding to the church (His body on earth), after which He (His body on earth that has the mind of Christ) will be perfected.
The "perfect" (τέλειον) in the NT almost always refers to maturity, completeness, being fully formed, or adulthood. There is no example of τέλειον referring to Scripture. Thus there is no reason to accept that the meaning of τέλειον would be "the Bible" in this one circumstance.
